The eighth-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 win over Ohio Northern University on Sunday afternoon at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
The Spartans improved to 6-0-1 this season with all six wins coming by shutout. The Polar Bears fell to 1-2-2 in 2025.
Stats and Standouts
- Seniors Jamie Goldfarb and Ceci Dapino both scored twice in the game for CWRU
- Junior Avery Reiman and senior Andrea Silva added two additional goals
- Sophomore goalkeeper Ellie Palaian saved three shots in the contest, earning her sixth career shutout and win
- Case Western Reserve has outscored its opponents 33-1 in the first seven games, including four wins by a 6-0 scoreline
First Half
- The Spartans scored just 77 seconds into the contest, capitalizing on their first opportunity of the game
- Dapino received the ball about 30 yards from the box after a corner kick was partially cleared
- She fired a shot that snuck underneath the crossbar for her fourth goal of the season
- Eight minutes later, Goldfarb doubled the team's advantage with her fifth goal of the campaign
- On a counterattack, senior Molly Shamah sent a pass from the wing to Goldfarb in the middle of the box. She kicked the ball into the far corner, past the ONU goalkeeper, and into the back of the net
- Shamah was credited with her fourth assist of the season on the play
- CWRU continued its strong attack, logging six more shots in the ensuing nine minutes before Goldfarb struck again in the 19th minute of play
- She sent a free kick from just outside the box toward the net, and the Ohio Northern goalkeeper was unable to handle the ball, punching it into the goal
- The goal was the sixth of the season for Goldfarb and the 14th of her career. It also marked her second multi-goal game of the year after scoring three times in the season-opening contest
- Palaian made two saves in the half, including one with just 44 seconds remaining, to keep the Polar Bears off the board
Second Half
- Dapino found the back of the net for the second time in the game in the 54th minute, scoring with an assist from first-year Izzy Probst
- From the end line, Probst sent a pass to Dapino in the middle of the box, and she fired a shot into the top of the goal to make the score 4-0
- It was the fifth goal of the season for Dapino and the 14th of her career. This marked the first time in her career that she scored twice in a single game
- Probst had her third assist of the campaign
- Case Western Reserve prevented the Polar Bears from scoring on a pair of corner kick opportunities in the 56th and 57th minutes with Palaian making a save and defenders blocking a pair of shots
- Ten minutes later, Silva found the back of the net for the second time this season with an assist from sophomore Kinzly Gootman
- Gootman received a corner kick and fired a shot that was saved by an ONU defender. Silva found the rebound and put the ball away for the fifth Spartan goal
- It was the second assist of the year for the sophomore
- Reiman scored for the first time in her career in the 82nd minute, firing a shot past the goalkeeper from just outside the box
Spartan Notes
- CWRU improved to 9-5-1 against ONU in the all-time series that dates to 2008. The Spartans have won the last six contests, including a 2-0 victory in the 2021 NCAA Tournament Second Round
- The match with the Polar Bears capped a stretch of five games in 12 games for Case Western Reserve. The team went 4-0-1 during the sequence
- The Spartans extended their non-conference regular season unbeaten streak to 59 games, going 54-0-5 in those contests since 2018
- Case Western Reserve outshot Ohio Northern 29-8 in the game with a 16-3 edge in shots on goal
- Reiman was the 11th different goal scorer for the Spartans this season with eight players recording at least two goals during the campaign
- The team's 33 goals are already tied for the ninth most in a single season in program history. The program record of 70 was set during the 2022 campaign when the Spartans reached the national championship
