The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team tied the College of Wooster 1-1 on Saturday afternoon at DiSanto Field in Cleveland to remain undefeated in the 2025 season.
The Spartans moved to 4-0-1 this season, while the Fighting Scots moved to 4-0-2.
CWRU scored early in the first half, and Wooster scored in the middle of the second period. The goal was the first allowed this season by Case Western Reserve, ending a scoreless stretch of 436:54 to begin the campaign
First Half
- The Spartans struck in the 18th minute on the second goal of the season from senior Adam Pluszczyk
- Senior Camden Larson dribbled about 15 yards toward the goal and found Pluszczyk at the top of the box
- Pluszczyk made a move to the inside and fired a left-footed shot into the top corner of the net, out of reach of the Wooster goalkeeper
- It was Pluszczyk's second goal in as many games, and Larson earned his first assist of the campaign
- The Scots had a chance in the 27th minute, but a shot by Evan Peratopoulos hit the right post
- Both teams had five shots in the first half with CWRU gaining a 3-0 edge in shots on goal
Second Half
- Wooster pressed its attack early in the second half, forcing the first save of the game by senior Bradley Winter in the 49th minute
- In the 79th minute, Wooster's Eddie Gluscksman stopped a breakaway shot by sophomore Ashton McNally in a one-on-one opportunity, keeping the Fighting Scot deficit at one
- The visitors scored just four minutes later with a header by Nate Chartrand off a corner kick by Elliot Miller
- CWRU controlled possession in the final three minutes of the contest, searching for the tie breaking goal. Three shots were unable to find the back of the net, and the teams settled for a draw
Spartan Notes
- The Spartans moved to 11-17-5 all-time against Wooster in a series that dates to 1977. The tie broke a nine-game winning streak by CWRU that started in 2006
- Case Western Reserve last started a season without a loss in its first five matches in 2023, going 4-0-1 to begin the campaign two years ago
- CWRU ended the contest with a 12-9 advantage in shots and earned five corner kicks to Wooster's three
- Four Spartans had a team-high two shots, including Pluszczyk, Larson, sophomore Amir Awais, and first-year Micah Rossen
