The season came to a close for the 17th-ranked Case Western Reserve University softball team on Saturday afternoon with a 7-3 loss to the 15th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at Mather Park in Cleveland.
The Spartans ended their 2025 campaign with a 30-12 overall record, while the Warhawks improved to 38-6. Wisconsin-Whitewater raised its record to 38-6 and will advance to the NCAA Super-Regionals next week.
Graduate student infielder KaiLi Gross went one-for-four with a home run, setting a new program record with the 34th long ball of her career. First-year outfielder Ashley Miller added a two-for-two day at the plate, and senior catcher Katelyn Lamm added a home run, her seventh of the year.
The Spartans fell behind 2-0 in the second inning, but back-to-back home runs from Gross and Lamm to start the fourth evened the score, and senior infielder Isabella Russo scored on a single by sophomore outfielder Nylah Durham to give CWRU the lead. However, the Warhawks went on to score two in the fourth to regain the lead, and added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to go ahead by four.
Two walks in the bottom of the seventh put the potential game-tying run in the on-deck circle for CWRU with one out and the top of the lineup due up, but the Spartans could not plate any runs and ultimately suffered the 7-3 setback.
Wisconsin-Whitewater's Brooke Hock earned the win to improve to 7-1, while senior Lexi Miskey suffered the loss to CWRU, ending her season with a 19-5 record.
Saturday's loss ended another outstanding season for the Spartans, who won 30 or more games and reached the NCAA DIII Championships for the fourth consecutive year.
