The 17th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team lost 7-0 to third-ranked Emory on Sunday afternoon at the Woodruff PE Tennis Center in Atlanta.
With the loss, the Spartans fell to 11-5. The Eagles improved to 13-3 with the win.
Emory secured the doubles point with 6-2 and 6-3 wins at third and second doubles, respectively. However, the CWRU pairing of senior Lily McCloskey and junior Katalina Wang defeated the Eagles' partnership of Dakota Fordham and Emily Kantrovitz 7-6 (7-3) at first doubles. The Emory pairing entered play as the third-ranked team nationally, while the Spartans were ranked second in the Central Region among doubles pairs.
The Eagles won all six singles matches to clinch the sweep. However, Wang played a three-set match against Yanire Marte at third singles, falling 6-2, 2-6, 0-6, and graduate student Laurel Utterback forced a third set against Izzy Antanavicius, ranked fifth nationally and ninth regionally, before ultimately losing 4-6, 6-4, 5-10.
CWRU will wrap up the regular season with a home matchup against Allegheny College on Friday, April 18 at 1 p.m. The match was originally scheduled for February 16.
