The 16th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team lost to 15th-ranked Bowdoin College 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club in Mayfield, Ohio.
The Spartans fell to 8-3 on the season, while the Polar Bears improved to 7-3.
Bowdoin started the match by winning the second doubles contest with Zoe Sun and Isabella Hartung defeating senior Anna Kan and junior Elsa Syed 6-1. CWRU responded by winning the third doubles match when graduate student Laurel Utterback and junior Ellior Rose beat Julia Ross and Candice Ballarin 6-4. The Polar Bears won the doubles point with a victory at first doubles when Caroline Stuhlfaut and Jamilah Karah bested senior Lily McCloskey and junior Katalina Wang 7-5.
Bowdoin won the opening singles match, taking a 6-3, 6-1 victory at third singles, and earned their third point with a 6-3, 6-1 win at first singles. The Polar Bears clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at sixth singles, and followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win at fifth singles.
Both Utterback and Kan played three set matches in singles play. Utterback fell 6-2, 2-6, 2-6 to Suzanne Pogorelec, and Kan dropped a 2-6, 6-4, 6-10 decision to Ross.
CWRU will resume its five-match homestand next weekend with a matchup against 37th-ranked Mary Washington on Saturday, April 5 beginning at 5 p.m.
