The 16th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team swept Ohio Northern University on Saturday evening at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow, Ohio, winning by a score of 7-0.
The Spartans improved to 8-2 on the season, while the Polar Bears dropped to 10-3.
Senior Anna Kan and junior Elsa Syed started the match with a 6-1 win at second doubles over Julianne Sheldon and Abby Cruser. Graduate student Laurel Utterback and junior Ellior Rose followed with a 6-2 third doubles victory over Lauren Okrainec and Miranda Wills, and senior Lily McCloskey and junior Katalina Wang completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 victory over Jenna Bell and Caroline Robinson at first doubles.
Junior Asha Shukla did not drop a point at fifth singles, beating Katherine O'Connell 6-0, 6-0 to give CWRU a 2-0 advantage. Kan increased the lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jamie Hurst at fourth singles, and sophomore Prachi Shah won 6-2, 6-2 over Leah Schleibaum at sixth singles. Wang clinched the match by beating Cruser 6-2, 6-1 at third singles, Utterback followed with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Bell at second singles, and McCloskey finished the sweep by besting Okrainec 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 at first singles.
CWRU will wrap up the weekend with a matchup against 15th-ranked Bowdoin on Sunday at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club beginning at 1 p.m.
