Four members of the Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team - senior guard Sam Trunley, junior guard Anand Dharmarajan, and sophomore guards Charlie Fox and Drey Fox - were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team based on their academic and athletic achievements during the 2024-25 campaign.
The Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Players honored were selected by their school's Sports Information Directors and must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average. A maximum of four student-athletes from each school can be nominated.
This was the third straight season that Trunley has been named a CSC Academic All-District honoree, while Dharmarajan, Fox, and Fox were each selected for the first time. Trunley was also chosen as a finalist for CSC Academic All-America honors and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. Academic All-America honorees will be announced at noon on Tuesday, April 15.
Trunley was named to the D3hoops.com All-Region Third Team and the All-UAA Second Team in 2024-25 after setting a program record with 587 points and ranking second among UAA players and eighth in Division III with 23.5 points per game. Trunley made 43.7% of his shots overall, including 36.5% from three-point range, while his 88.3% mark from the free-throw line was the 25th-highest among Division III players during the year. He added 5.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game while collecting 34 steals and blocking four shots. Trunley broke his own school record with a 51-point showing against Carnegie Mellon in his final collegiate game on March 1. The showing was a UAA record for points in a conference game and he ended his career with 1,195 points, the 11th-most in program history. Trunley was named the UAA Athlete of the Week on four occasions this year and was selected twice to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week.
Trunley, a political science major with a 3.575 cumulative grade point average, is a three-time UAA All-Academic honoree and was named to the NABC Honors Court last season.
By the end of the season, Dharmarajan became one of the team's more reliable scorers, starting the final seven games of the year and averaging 11.6 points per game during the stretch. He scored a career-high 27 points against Carnegie Mellon in the team's season finale, making seven-of-10 three-point attempts in the game, and also had a 20-point effort against Chicago on February 16. Dharmarajan averaged 4.8 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game, shooting 39.1% overall and 41.2% from long range.
Dharmarajan has a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA as a pre-med student and is a two-time UAA All-Academic honoree.
Charlie Fox emerged as a reliable backcourt option for CWRU as a sophomore, playing in all 25 games and making four starts. He finished the year with 2.8 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 rebounds per contest, shooting 48.4% overall and 42.1% from three-point range. He scored a career-high seven points against Houghton on November 16 and dished out a season-high seven assists against Denison on December 14.
Fox, a finance major, holds a 4.0 cumulative GPA and was named to the UAA All-Academic team earlier in the year for the first time in his career.
Drey Fox was a key contributor off the bench for the Spartans during the season, appearing in 23 of the team's games. He averaged 2.8 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game while shooting 28.6% from the floor and 26.2% from three-point range, all career-best marks. He scored a career-high nine points against both Penn State Altoona and Hiram, making three three-pointers in each game.
Fox has a 3.535 cumulative GPA at CWRU and is a business major. He received UAA All-Academic honors earlier this year.
The Spartans finished the season with a 9-16 overall record, including a 5-9 mark in UAA games.
