CWRU Athletics Announces the Launch of the Re-Envisioned Spartan Club

Case Western Reserve University, the Department of Physical Education and Athletics, and the Alumni Association have announced the launch of the newly re-envisioned Spartan Club as an affinity group, with the goal of fostering and strengthening relationships among former and current student-athletes, and building a greater sense of community and delivers benefit to the Club Members, the broader athletic alumni community, and the University.

"The launch of the Spartan Club Athletic Affinity Group marks an exciting opportunity to reconnect with our proud Spartan alumni, families, and friends to celebrate our shared history and strengthen the bridge between past and present student-athletes and those who have supported the Spartans," said CWRU's James C. Wyant Director of Athletics TJ Shelton. "This new framework for the Spartan Club as an affinity group will provide a dedicated space to engage, share experiences, and continue shaping the future of Spartan Athletics. We're thrilled to bring together generations of Spartan athletes to support one another, mentor current students, and advance the strong tradition of excellence that defines CWRU Athletics. Once a Spartan, always a Spartan."

The group will be led by former CWRU softball and basketball player Angel Rice (CWRU '08), who will continue to serve in her role as President. Spartan Club Hall of Fame inductee and former All-American wrestler Chris Nader (CWRU '02) will be the vice president, while Spartan Club Hall of Fame quarterback Eli Grant (CWRU '04) will continue in his role as the chairman of the Hall of Fame committee. In addition, All-American tennis player CJ Krimbill (CWRU '16) will be the Varsity Sports Chair and will lead the Varsity Sports Board, which will include a member from each team.

"The newly reimagined Spartan Club is a reason to celebrate because it formally unites CWRU Athletics and the Alumni Association to create a stronger, more unified alumni network for former student-athletes," said Malik Murray, the Associate Director of Alumni Affinity Programs for the CWRU Alumni Association. "This joint effort immediately brings greater collective resources and institutional support to the table. Ultimately, this collaboration will allow for deeper and more fulfilling engagement opportunities and a streamlined structure for philanthropy, ensuring continued excellence for current and future Spartan student-athletes."

The goals of the Spartan Club Athletic Affinity Group include increasing engagement among athlete alumni, promoting CWRU athletics more broadly throughout the alumni community, and increasing fundraising to support broad and specific athletic department goals.
