Dharmarajan’s Career-High 30 Lifts Spartans to Win over Kalamazoo

Case Western Reserve University senior guard Anand Dharmarajan scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Spartans to a 97-80 win over Kalamazoo College on Tuesday afternoon at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland.

The win was the fourth in a row for the Spartans, who improved to 7-3 overall, while the Hornets suffered their third consecutive loss, dropping to 3-8.

Stats and Standouts


  • Dharmarajan connected on seven three-pointers on 12 attempts to match his career high, falling just one short of the program's single-game record. He made 10-of-16 shots overall with three rebounds and a steal.

  • Graduate student guard Ethan Edwards finished with 15 points for the second-straight game, matching his season high. He added three assists and a pair of steals.

  • Senior forward Andrew Fox was also in double figures, scoring 12 points on a six-of-eight shooting effort with four rebounds and a block.

  • First-year forward Alex Vincent came off the bench to score eight points with nine rebounds and blocked a career-high five shots.

  • CWRU, which led wire-to-wire, shot 46.5% (33-71) on Tuesday, including 40.6% (13-32) from behind the three-point line.

First Half


  • Dharmarajan dropped 22 points in the first half alone, shooting eight-of-12 from the floor and making six three-pointers on nine attempts during the first 20 minutes of the game.

  • Fox scored the first six points of the game, and a layup by Edwards with 17:42 on the clock extended the Spartans' lead to 8-0.

  • A three from Dharmarajan with 12:59 gave CWRU its first double-digit lead of the game, 21-11.

  • Kalamazoo trimmed the lead to six points, 36-30, with 5:57 on the clock, but a 14-2 run, keyed by 10 points from Dharmarajan, gave CWRU an 18-point lead with 2:13 to play, its largest lead of the half.

  • The Spartans took a 50-35 lead into halftime, making nine threes as a team during the period.

Second Half


  • The game was never in doubt in the second half, as CWRU led by double-digits for the entire frame.

  • Sophomore guard Matthew Ellis connected on threes on back-to-back possessions to give CWRU a 75-52 lead with 12:38 to play in the game, its largest lead of the game.

  • Kalamazoo cut the Spartans' lead to as few as 12 points, 76-64 with 9:53 to play, but CWRU's advantage climbed back to as many as 21 points over the closing minutes, before the Spartans wrapped up the 17-point triumph.

Spartan Notes


  • Tuesday's game was the Spartans' first in the last 17 days and the team's first home game since November 30.

  • CWRU improved to 3-0 this season at home following the win.

  • Dharmarajan's 30 points were the most scored in a game by a Spartan this season and surpassed his previous career-high of 27 points, scored against Carnegie Mellon last season.

  • CWRU now stands at 8-3 all-time against the Hornets. The Spartans avenged a 96-75 loss at Kalamazoo last year.

  • The Spartans finished with a +7 rebound margin and improved to 7-1 when outrebounding its opponent this season.
