Ellis Named UAA Athlete of the Week

Case Western Reserve University sophomore guard Matthew Ellis was named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for Men's Basketball after coming off the bench to record a career-high in points in back-to-back wins for the Spartans last week.

Ellis averaged 22.0 points per game (44 total points in 46 minutes of action) on 69.6% (16-23) shooting overall and 77.8% (7-9) from three-point range. He also made all five of his free throw attempts and added a rebound, four assists, and one steal over the two games. He matched his career high with a team-high 19 points in a 92-74 win at Hiram on Wednesday, making eight-of-11 shots overall and three-of-five from behind the three-point line, while collecting a rebound and three assists. He followed that with a career-best 25 points to lead all players in an 85-65 win at Allegheny, making eight-of-12 shots, including four-of-four from long range, and all five of his free throw attempts, while adding an assist and a steal.

Ellis leads all CWRU players this season with 13.6 points per game on 56.0% shooting overall, including a 48.1% on three-point attempts, with 0.9 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. This was the first UAA Athlete of the Week honor of his career.

CWRU has won three consecutive games to improve to 6-3 overall. The Spartans will be off until Tuesday, December 30, when the team returns to action to host Kalamazoo College at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland at 2:00 p.m.
