The Spartan Club, comprised of Case Institute of Technology (CIT), Western Reserve University (WRU) and Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) alumni, parents of current students, faculty and staff, and friends of the University, is aimed at helping foster and honor the proud tradition of athletics at the University, while also supporting the current student-athletes. Case Western Reserve University senior Andrew Fox, a forward on the men's basketball team, and junior Maura Schorr, a forward on the women's basketball team, have been named the Spartan Club Athletes of the Week for their performances this past week.
Fox helped pace the Spartans during the team's 78-61 win over Saint Vincent College on Sunday afternoon. Fox made six-of-eight shot attempts from the floor and converted one-of-three free throw attempts for 13 points in the game. He added seven rebounds, two assists, and a block during the win. Through seven games this season, Fox is averaging 8.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest. The Spartans improved to 4-3 for the season with the win.
The Spartans will travel to Hiram, Ohio, to face Hiram College on Wednesday, December 10, at 7:30 p.m.
Schorr helped lead the Spartans to a 53-47 win at Bethany College on Tuesday. Schorr led all Spartans with a career-high 17 points in the game and added 11 rebounds, two steals, and a block. She made five-of-11 shots and converted seven-of-nine free throw attempts during the game. It was her second double-double of the year and the fifth of her career. Through the team's first six games, Schorr has averaged 8.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest. The Spartans have opened the campaign with a 5-1 overall record.
The Spartans will return home to Cleveland to host Marietta College on Wednesday, December 3, at 7 p.m. inside Horsburgh Gymnasium.
The Spartan Club Athletes of the Week are selected by the CWRU Department of Athletics each Monday, based on their performance during the previous week of competition.
