Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 22 Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Lycoming for Road Win

The 22nd-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team recorded its second consecutive shutout, defeating Lycoming College 1-0 at UPMC Field at Keiper Stadium in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, on Saturday evening.

The Spartans improved to 2-1-0 on the season, while the Warriors suffered their first loss of the campaign and dropped to 3-1-0.

Senior Kysen Kroeger scored his third goal in the team's last two games in the 22nd minute for the lone tally of the contest. It was the team's first shot of the half, beating the goalkeeper in the upper corner from the middle of the box. Junior Camden Larson earned an assist on the play, his first of the campaign.

Neither team was able to score for the remainder of the first half, though sophomore Sean Wilson put the team's second shot on goal in the 32nd minute. Lycoming had a chance to even the score with eight minutes left in the stanza, earning three corner kicks, but the hosts managed just one shot that was blocked by the CWRU defense.

Junior goalkeeper Bradley Winter registered his first save in the 54th minute, pushing a ball in the lower right corner away from the net. A few minutes later, the Warriors earned a corner kick, but their attempt on goal was blocked. Winter saved another attempt in the 81st minute to keep Lycoming off the board, securing a low shot off a free kick. The Spartan defense did not allow the hosts to register any additional shots for the remainder of the contest, preserving the clean sheet.

Winter played all 90 minutes in goal, saving two shots to pick up the win and shutout. Graduate student Eshwar Challa, sophomore Cameron Thayer, and junior Philip Washington all played the entire match on the backline. Offensively, sophomore Adam Pluszczyk had two of the team's five shots.

The Spartans return to DiSanto Field next week to begin a three-game homestand. First, CWRU will host Trine at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 13.
