Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Ties Mount Union at Home on Saturday

The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team finished its regular season non-conference schedule with a 2-2 tie with the University of Mount Union on Saturday afternoon at DiSanto Field in Cleveland.

With the draw, Spartans moved to 5-2-2 in 2024. The Purple Raiders tied their first game of the season and now stand at 6-3-1.

Case Western Reserve scored a goal just seven minutes into the contest to take an early lead. Junior Camden Larson fired a shot in the middle of the field from about 30 yards away from the goal. The ball struck off a Purple Raider defender and found the back of the net for Larson's first goal of the season.

Just 10 minutes later, Mount Union tied the score with a set piece goal. The visitors tallied a goal off a corner kick to make the score 1-1 in the 17th minute.

Larson started the play that gave the Spartans the lead in the 25th minute. The junior found senior Kysen Kroeger, who quickly sent a pass to sophomore Adam Pluszczyk. Pluszczyk then directed a through ball to a sprinting Lukas Dalakis, who kicked a shot past the diving Mount Union goalkeeper for the goal. It was the second goal of the season for Dalakis and Pluszczyk tied for the team lead with his third assist.

CWRU went into halftime with the lead after neither team could score for the remainder of the period.

Mount Union converted a penalty kick in the 58th minute to tie the score at two. No one could find the back of the net for the rest of the game, leading to a draw.

Mount Union held an 11-7 advantage on shots, but CWRU put four shots on goal to the Purple Raiders' three. Larson and first-year Amir Awais both had two shots for the Spartans.

The Spartans will begin their seven-game conference schedule with a visit from New York University on Saturday, October 5. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
