While a number of the team's players were in St. Louis, competing for the ITA Fall Regional Championship, the rest of the Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team headed to Toledo, Ohio last weekend for the Everybody vs. Cancer Rocket Invitational.
Facing Division I competition from Northern Kentucky, Northern Illinois, Wayne State, Illinois-Chicago, and Toledo, the Spartans finished with an overall record of 15-17 in singles play and 3-6 in doubles action.
Three Spartans went undefeated in singles action, as senior Ben Martin, junior Justin Prochnow, and sophomore Derek Shiffer each went 2-0, despite facing the high level of competition. Prochnow remained undefeated in singles play in the fall with the effort, improving to 7-0, while Martin and Shiffer each improved to 5-2.
In doubles action, CWRU received wins from the pairings of junior Matthew Plunkett and sophomore Trey Lambright, junior Rohan Bhat and Shiffer, and Martin and Prochnow.
While most of the play for the Spartans this week has ended, CWRU will be represented in the ITA Fall Central Regional Singles Championship match by Ansh Shah on Monday at 10:00 a.m. CT in St. Louis. Shah will also be in action at the ITA Cup from October 10 -13, while the rest of the team is scheduled to wrap up its fall campaign at the Zach Barden Memorial Invitational back at Toledo on November 15 - 17.
