CWRU Women’s Cross Country Finishes Third among D3 Programs at All-Ohio

The Case Western Reserve University women's cross country team finished third out of 13 NCAA Division III teams and fifth out of 25 teams overall at the 2024 All-Ohio Invitational at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, Ohio on Friday evening.

The Spartans scored 76 points among Division III teams at the meet, finishing behind only Ohio Wesleyan (60 points) and Ohio Northern (62). Rounding out the top-five Division III teams were Franciscan (95) and Otterbein (143). CWRU was fifth among all NCAA and NAIA schools, behind only Cedarville (37), Tiffin (109), Ohio Wesleyan (134), and Ohio Northern (157).

Junior Ashley Novak was the team's top finisher for the third time in as many races this season, placing seventh overall out of 314 competitors and third among 150 Division III runners in the women's 6K with a time of 22:54.9. Junior Lauren Iagnemma followed her with a time of 23:11.4 to place 14th overall and fifth among DIII runners, while sophomore Pimada Phongsuriya was 43rd overall and 17th among DIII competitors with a time of 24:18.9, her best 6K time as a Spartan.

Rounding out the team's top five on Friday were junior Anna Avila (69th overall, 23rd DIII, 24:48.7) and first-year Cecilia Postma (77th overall, 28th DIII, 24:56.5) and junior Julia Hluck (82nd overall, 30th DIII, 25:05.4) and first-year Becca Liaw (89th overall, 34th DIII, 25:23.1) completed the Spartans' top seven.

Other finishers for the Spartans on Friday included senior Mandy Lam (97th overall, 37th DIII, 25:31.3), first-year Julia Walko (101st overall, 40th DIII, 25:34.2), senior Alyssa Storm (143rd overall, 63rd DIII, 26:28.1), first-year Anna Feland (184th overall, 83rd DIII, 27:27.5), and sophomore Angie Getz (200th overall, 92nd DIII, 27:53.7).

Wilmington's Faith Duncan was the top finisher both overall and among Division III competitors with a time of 21:17.6.

The Spartans will be off next week before returning to action on Friday, October 4 at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational at Liberty Park in Powell, Ohio.

  • CWRU Head Coach Kathy Lanese Yohann was awarded the Marv Frye Award for distinguished service for the sport of cross country in Ohio at the meet on Friday. Lanese Yohann became the first woman to ever win the award.
