Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Shamah’s Two Goals Power Women’s Soccer to Road Win Over BW

Behind two goals from junior Molly Shamah and a stout team defensive effort, the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team defeated Baldwin Wallace University 2-0 on Wednesday night on Tressel Field at George Finnie Stadium in Berea, Ohio.

The Spartans remained unbeaten during the season, improving to 3-0-1 in 2024, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 4-2-0 overall.

In the 10th minute, Shamah collected a loose ball about 40 yards from the goal and dribbled to just outside the 18-yard box. She evaded a BW defender before firing a lob shot from inside the box. The ball hit off the crossbar and bounded into the goal, breaking the scoreless tie.

After neither team scored for the rest of the half, Shamah scored her second of the game in the 54th minute, doubling the team's advantage. On a counterattack, senior Sydney Schenk and junior Alexis Sassower developed a give-and-go. Sassower, free in the box, fired a shot from about 10 yards out. The Yellow Jacket goalkeeper saved it with a dive, but the ball reached the feet of Shamah on the far post. She deftly tapped it into the back of the net for the score.

Defensively, the Spartans allowed just one shot for the remainder of the contest and limited the hosts to four total chances on goal. Graduate student goalkeeper Maggie Storti collected three saves to earn her second shutout of the season. She increased her save percentage to .786 and lowered her goals against average to 0.75 for the campaign.

Offensively, CWRU had 34 shots, including 19 on target. Shamah paced the team with six (five on goal), Sassower had four, and Schenk and sophomore Kat Tsarouhas each fired three attempts at the net. Of the team's 24 players in the contest, 17 recorded a shot attempt.

The Spartans will finish their four-game road trip on Saturday with a trek to Westerville, Ohio, to face Otterbein University at 4:45 p.m.
