The Case Western Reserve University men's track and field team built upon its success in the indoor season to have a successful outdoor campaign in 2024, earning seven All-University Athletic Association honors with one individual UAA champion.
For the second consecutive season, a member of the CWRU men's track and field team earned Most Outstanding Runner honors at the UAA Outdoor Championships. In 2024, graduate student Juan Perez was recognized after a pair of top-two finishes and a fourth-place finish in a third event. Perez won the conference championship in the 100-meter dash, crossing the line in 10.87 seconds to claim gold. He was a member of the 4x100-meter relay that placed second in a school record time of 41.25 seconds, and he placed fourth as an individual in the 200-meter dash, missing a third All-UAA honor by 0.004 seconds. Perez ended his career with six All-UAA honors, including three during the outdoor season.
Overall, Case Western Reserve placed fifth in the conference with 74.0 points. Senior Brett Callow secured a pair of All-UAA honors, finishing third in the 200-meter dash and placing second in the 4x100-meter relay. Joining Perez and Callow on the relay were graduate student Keith Cartwright and sophomore Josh Bates. Graduate student Peculiar Nzegbuna earned his third career All-UAA honor with a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles.
Callow and Cartwright both added points to the team's total with top eight finishes in other events. The duo placed fourth and fifth in the 100-meter dash, giving the Spartans three of the event's top five finishers. Cartwright contributed a sixth-place finish in the javelin throw and seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash. In hurdling events, sophomore Joshua Park placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles, and graduate student Pierce Boucher crossed the line fifth in the 400-meter hurdles. Junior Luke Kishna finished fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and sophomore Aidan Nathan added two points by placing seventh in the 10,000-meter run. Competing at his first outdoor conference championship, first-year Jeremiah Broughton secured a point for CWRU with an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter dash.
The Spartans added three additional points in the field, with senior Yusuf Shaaban (high jump), sophomore Anthony DeCarlo (pole vault), and first-year Toby Langsner (hammer throw) all placing eighth in their events.
Earlier in the season, the team scored the second-most points out of 12 teams at the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan, and ranked third out of 12 teams at Baldwin Wallace's Sparky Adams Invite.
Perez and junior Nate Gilbert were recognized by the College Sports Communicators for their work in the classroom and on the track, receiving Academic All-America Second Team honors following the season. It was the second consecutive season Gilbert was named an Academic All-American. In addition, Bates, Kishna, and senior Stephen Henry received CSC Academic All-District recognition, and 27 members of the team earned UAA All-Academic honors.
