Senior thrower Adrienne Wachtman of the Case Western Reserve University women's track and field team earned All-America honors in the javelin throw at the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Thursday.
Wachtman placed seventh in the event, becoming the first-ever All-American in the event in the history of the CWRU women's track and field program. Wachtman qualified for the nine-thrower final with a heave of 42.04 meters on her first attempt, the fifth-best mark among the 22 competitors. Although she fouled her final three attempts, her effort on the first throw was enough to place seventh in the nation.
Earlier this season, Wachtman set the program record in the javelin throw, heaving the implement 44.09 meters to win the University Athletic Association Championship. She was making her second-ever appearance at the NCAA Championships after placing 18th last season. Wachtman is the first All-American at an outdoor championship for the Spartan track and field program since Cassandra Laois received two honors in 2019.
Junior Lauren Roskuszka also competed in the event, placing 15th in the country with a throw of 38.89 meters on her third attempt.
The javelin throw national championship marked the final event of the 2023-24 Case Western Reserve track and field season.
