Sophomore Marty Landes of the Case Western Reserve University wrestling team placed seventh in the 157-pound bracket at the 37th Annual John Summa Invitational held inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse on the Baldwin Wallace University campus in Berea, Ohio, on Saturday.

Landes went 4-2 with a fall and technical fall at the meet to earn his placement, improving to 14-9 on the season. He started the day with his fourth technical fall of the season, defeating Alfred State's Ethan Morrison 18-1. Landes reached the quarterfinal with a 13-6 decision but fell to Thomas West of BW to fall into the consolation bracket. He rebounded with his first pin of the season, besting Alex Boukheir of Ohio Wesleyan in 2:17. A loss by decision in the consolation quarterfinal sent Landes to the seventh-place match, where he defeated Jacob Williams of Otterbein by major decision, 15-3.

Competing in the 174-pound bracket, first-year Louka Babic earned three wins during the invite, reaching the fourth consolation round. First-year Mike Valerino went 2-2, earning his 11th pin of the season and his second career technical fall in the 133-pound bracket. Valerino won by technical fall, 19-3, over Dreyvin Livingston from Thiel, and he pinned Otterbein's Tamas Eder in 2:10.

First-year Mathew Gummere also earned a win by fall at the invitational, starting the day with a 2:28 victory over Gavin McLaughlin of Brockport at 174 pounds for his sixth pin of the season.

Overall, the Spartans scored 25.5 team points to place 12th out of the 13 teams. Baldwin Wallace had the most team points, scoring 187.0.

The CWRU wrestling team will next travel to Delaware, Ohio, for their final dual match of the season, facing Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday, February 10 at 2 p.m.
