Senior Adrienne Wachtman and sophomore Michelle Lee each claimed All-University Athletic Association honors to lead the Case Western Reserve University women's track and field team to third place in the conference standings after one day of competition at the 2024 UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by New York University at the Armory Track and Field Center in Manhattan, New York, on Saturday.
Wachtman and Lee placed second and third in the weight throw to earn All-UAA recognition. Wachtman recorded a mark of 15.94 meters to earn her first career indoor conference honor and the fourth All-UAA honor of her career. Lee earned her first career All-UAA award with a toss of 15.72 meters. The pair are the first Spartans to place in the top three in the event since Taylor Jackson won the weight throw at the 2020 UAA Indoor Championships.
Also scoring points in the weight throw was senior Ailean Duffie, who placed sixth with a throw of 14.58 meters.
In the preliminary heats of the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Grace Misiunas set a school record with a time of 9.15 seconds, besting the previous record of 9.17 seconds set by Olivia Newman in 2018. Misiunas recorded the fifth-fastest time in the preliminaries, advancing to the eight-runner final on Sunday.
A pair of first-year vaulters scored for the Spartans in the pole vault. Holly Schreiber placed fifth in the event by clearing 3.51 meters, and Annie Wank tied for sixth by clearing 3.36 meters.
Sophomore Ashley Novak earned a point for Case Western Reserve with an eighth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the line at 17:50.95.
Finally, the CWRU distance medley relay of senior Grace Jackson and sophomores Melanie Taylor, Arianna Holbrook, and Lauren Iagnemma placed fifth with a time of 12:08.41.
After one day of competition and five completed events, Case Western Reserve is third in the conference standings with 28.5 points. The University of Chicago leads with 64.0 points, followed by WashU with 42.0 points. Trailing the Spartans are Emory (26.0 points), Carnegie Mellon (17.5 points), NYU (13.0 points), and Brandeis (3.0 points).
The UAA Indoor Track and Field Championships conclude on Sunday with action starting at 10 a.m.
