The Case Western Reserve University wrestling team won its final dual match of the season on Saturday afternoon at the Branch Rickey Arena in Delaware, Ohio, defeating host Ohio Wesleyan University, 41-15.
The Spartans earned their 10th win of the season for the second consecutive campaign, finishing the dual slate with a record of 10-3. The Battling Bishops fell to 2-5 with the loss.
Following two forfeits by OWU, sophomore Art Martinez won by technical fall, 19-2, in 5:48 over Gabe Bulugaris at 141 pounds. It was Martinez's team-leading 10th technical fall of the season and the 13th of his career.
Junior Calvin Cai then started a streak of four consecutive pins by Spartan wrestlers. Cai bested Joe Connor in 45 seconds at 149 pounds, sophomore Marty Landes took down Luke Milanovich in 3:48 at 157 pounds, graduate student Mitchell Arch dispatched Tommy Brunty in 3:39 at 165 pounds, and first-year Simon Bishop defeated Brady Walsh in 4:45 at 174 pounds. Cai earned his fifth pin of the season, Landes picked up his second of the campaign, Arch secured his team-leading 23rd pin in 2023-24, and Bishop earned his eighth of the year. Arch also earned his 104th career victory, breaking a tie with Josh Schmidt for the 11th-most career victories in program history.
Ohio Wesleyan earned its first points of the afternoon with forfeits at 184 and 197 pounds, and the Battling Bishops picked up their final three points with a 6-3Â decision at 285 pounds.
The Spartans will next compete tomorrow at the JCU Open, hosted by John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio. Action is scheduled to begin from the DeCarlo Varsity Center at 10 a.m.
