Two members of the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team, senior outside hitter Rea Marfatia and junior middle blocker Amanda Ngo, were selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region VII First Team, the association announced on Wednesday.
Marfatia and Ngo are both receiving their first career All-Region honors. This is the first time in program history CWRU has multiple All-Region First Team honorees, and the pair are just the fifth and sixth awardees in program history.
Marfatia, who has appeared in all 120 sets this season, leads the team with 451.0 points (3.76 per set), 393 kills (3.28 per set), and 35 service aces (0.29 per set). She ranks second on the squad with 368 digs (3.07 per set) and has added 40.0 total blocks. Marfatia, an All-University Athletic Association First Team selection for the first time in her career, ranks third in the UAA in kills and points per set. Earlier this season, she became the third student-athlete in program history to record at least 1,000 career kills and digs and 100 career aces.
Ngo, an All-UAA First Team selection this season, has started all 31 matches for CWRU and appeared in 107 sets. She's the team's leading blocker, totaling 99.0 this season for 0.93 per set (which ranks sixth in the conference). Offensively, Ngo is second on the team with 271 kills, averaging 2.53 per set, and her .296 hitting percentage is the eighth-best in the association. Across three seasons, she has 194.0 total blocks, the 13th-most in program history.Â
Three teams of All-Americans will be voted on by AVCA membership and announced on Wednesday, November 27.
Case Western Reserve will face the University of Dubuque at the DeVos Fieldhouse in Holland, Michigan, on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship. CWRU qualified for the national tournament for the second year in a row and fourth time in program history.
