Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

CWRU Suffers 66-50 Loss to John Carroll

The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team dropped a 66-50 contest to John Carroll University on Friday night in the team's home-opening game at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland.

The Spartans fell to 1-2 with the loss while John Carroll improved to 4-0.

Senior guard Nyah Moore led all Spartans with 12 points, shooting four-of-10 overall and making three-of-four three-point attempts. Junior guard/forward Emily Plachta added 11 points and a pair of steals, while senior forward Evie Miller finished the game with four points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks.

CWRU had an early lead in the game, taking an 8-5 advantage with 5:21 left in the first quarter, but the Blue Streaks closed out the period on an 8-0 run to take a 13-8 advantage into the second frame. The Blue Streaks pulled away in the second quarter, taking a 15-point lead with 2:39 left and closing out the half with a 32-20 lead.

The Spartans opened the second half on a 9-2 run to get back into the contest, cutting the John Carroll lead to just five points, 34-29, on a three by Moore with 7:15 left in the third. However, that would be as close as CWRU would get for the remainder of the game, as the Blue Streaks' lead grew back to 15 by the end of the third quarter, and the team went on to lead by as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter, en route to the 16-point win.

CWRU finished the game shooting 28.8% overall and 28.6% from behind the three-point arc.

John Carroll's Ava Ryncarz led all scorers with 23 points.

The Spartans will be back in action next week, hosting Capital University at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20 at Horsburgh Gymnasium.
