The Case Western Reserve University women's cross country team registered a seventh-place finish out of 29 teams at the Mike Woods Invitational at the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo, New York on Saturday morning.
Seven of the 12 CWRU runners on Saturday recorded season-best times in the women's 6K race, including three who notched career-best marks. The Spartans finished the meet with 245 points, finishing behind SUNY Geneseo (52), Carnegie Mellon (67), RPI (78), JCU (94), Ithaca (228), and Rochester (240).
Junior Lauren Iagnemma led the Spartans with a sixth-place finish out of 372 total finishers, completing the course in a time of 21:48.0, the fastest time run by a Spartan this year. Junior Arianna Holbrook followed in 48th place with a time of 23:02.5, while first-year Ciara Ledford was 58th with a career-best time of 23:13.5. Junior Julia Hluck was the fourth Spartan to cross the finish line, placing 61st with a mark of 23:16.1, and sophomore Pimada Phongsuriya rounded out the team's scorers, finishing 95th with a time of 23:45.3.
Completing the top seven for the Spartans were junior Anna Avila, who was 109th with a season-best time of 23:57.5, and first-year Julia Walko, who was 137th with a career-best time of 24:18.6. Senior Mandy Lam added a 160th-place finish in a career-best time of 24:35.9, while senior Alyssa Storm (254th, 25:52.5) and sophomore Angie Getz (289th, 26:26.1) each notched season-best times. Other Spartans in action at the Mike Woods Invitational included first-years Becca Liaw (164th, 24:41.3) and Cecilia Postma (196th, 24:55.5).
SUNY Geneseo's Penelope Greene was the top finisher in the women's 6K on Saturday with a time of 20:39.7.
The Spartans will now turn their attention to their championship season, beginning with the 2024 University Athletic Association Championship, hosted by Brandeis on Saturday, November 2 at Franklin Park in Boston.

This was the first time this season that Iagnemma had been the Spartans' top finisher in a race. She had been the team's second finisher in each of the previous three races she competed in.
