The Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team continued to rise in the national rankings, as the Spartans were ranked second in this week's D3hoops.com Top-25, which was released by the website on Tuesday afternoon.
It marks the highest the Spartans have ever been ranked in the poll, surpassing the team's appearance at no. 7 in the rankings last year. CWRU rose six spots from last week's poll and received eight first-place votes, the first time that the squad has ever received a first-place vote for the D3hoops.com Top-25.
The rise in ranking comes on the heels of a 2-0 performance for the Spartans at the 2023 D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas last week. CWRU claimed an 87-74 win over then-fourth-ranked Oswego State (which moved to 10th in this week's poll) followed by a 98-87 victory against Clark. CWRU finished non-conference play undefeated for the second-straight year and its 11-0 start to the campaign matches the best in the program's history. The Spartans are one win away from tying the longest winning streak in program history.
CWRU is one of nine remaining undefeated teams in Division III this season. The Spartans are eighth among Division III teams with 90.2 points per game and rank 10th in the country in both 3-pointers per game (11.2) and blocks per game (5.9).
CWRU will open University Athletic Association play this weekend, traveling to Pittsburgh to face Carnegie Mellon at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6.
