The eighth-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a 3-0 win over Baldwin Wallace on Sunday afternoon at DiSanto Field in Cleveland.
With the win, the Spartans improved to 6-0-1 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 4-1-1. CWRU extended its non-conference regular season unbeaten streak to 40 matches.
Just 10 minutes into the contest, junior forward Carolyn Koutures scored her team-leading third goal of the season to put the hosts ahead. She collected a deflection at the top of the box and struck the ball high toward the goal. It sailed past the reach of the jumping BW goalkeeper and into the back of the net. The goal was the 10th of Koutures' career.
Junior defender Katie Rishel tallied her first career goal in the 28th minute to double the Spartan lead. She dribbled unmarked from about 30 yards away from the goal and toward the box on the far side of the field. When Rishel was about 15 yards away, she shot the ball low and into the near corner of the goal to make the score 2-0.
Nearly 15 minutes into the second half, sophomore midfielder/forward Ceci Dapino put the match away with the team's third goal of the contest. Sophomore forward Andrea Silva collected her own corner kick near the top of the box and crossed the ball toward the far post. Inside the six-yard box, Dapino deflected the ball with a header into the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Silva earned her second assist in 2023 on the play.
CWRU controlled possession throughout the match, outshooting BW 28-4 with a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. Dapino tallied a team-high five shots with three on target, while junior midfielder Sydney Schenk added four shots off the bench.
In goal, senior Maggie Storti (6-0-1) earned her sixth win of the season, saving three shots in 85 minutes. She was replaced late in the contest by senior Sydney Stone who completed the shutout with six minutes in front of the net. It was the fourth clean sheet of the season for the Spartans in seven matches.
Prior to the contest, CWRU honored six of its graduating team members—Stone, Storti, graduate student Alyssa Soltis, senior Sumera Sandhir, and student coaches Grace Bratter and Rebecca Hammill —with a special Senior Day ceremony.
Case Western Reserve remains home this week, facing Penn State Behrend on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. on DiSanto Field.
