Men’s Soccer Earns NCAA Tournament Bid, Will Travel to Cortland, N.Y. to Face Hobart

The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team earned an at-large selection to the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship, as announced by the NCAA in a Selection Show on Monday. It is the fifth tournament appearance in program history and second in as many seasons after the team also received bids in 2022, 2018, 2011, and 2006.

The Spartans (9-3-3) will travel to SUNY Cortland in Cortland, New York, for the first two rounds of the tournament on Saturday, November 11 and Sunday, November 12. CWRU will face Hobart (12-5-2), who won the Liberty League Championship, on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. On the other side of the bracket, host Cortland (15-2-2), ranked sixth in Division III and champions of the State University of New York Athletic Conference, plays Alfred State (17-3-1), champions of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, at 11 a.m.

The two advancing teams will meet at 1 p.m. on Sunday in the Second Round. All games will be played at T. Fred Holloway Field in Cortland.

Case Western Reserve placed third in the University Athletic Association with a 3-2-2 record in conference play. The Spartans reached the national quarterfinals in 2018, its furthest advancement in the tournament, and have an all-time record of 4-2-3 in postseason play. Last season, the team tied Muhlenberg 0-0 in the First Round and did not advance following a penalty kick shootout. It was the team's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament under the leadership of Head Coach Carter Poe.
