The eighth-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team earned a scoreless draw against third-ranked archrival Carnegie Mellon University in the regular season finale at CMU Soccer Field in Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans end the regular season with a record of 11-1-4 and a 3-1-3 mark in the University Athletic Association, placing third. Tartans conclude the regular season at 11-0-6 and 1-0-6 in conference play to finish fifth.
Senior goalkeeper Maggie Storti earned her eighth shutout of the season and the 26th of her career, making five saves. It was the ninth shutout of 2023 for CWRU. Storti lowered her season goals against average to 0.50. Senior Aniya Hartzler, junior Katie Rishel, and first-years Maya Healy and Kat Tsarouhas all played the entire match on the backline.
Carnegie Mellon had the early chances, hitting the crossbar on a shot in the 15th minute on a free kick from just outside the box. Storti also made a save with three seconds left in the first half to keep the match scoreless.
In the 56th minute, sophomore midfielder/forward Ceci Dapino and sophomore midfielder Jamie Goldfarb fired back-to-back shots at the Tartan goalkeeper. However, both were saved, keeping the score at 0-0. Storti made two more saves in the contest, and neither team was able to break the deadlock for the remainder of the match.
The Spartans, who were ranked first in Region VII in the final NCAA Regional Rankings of the regular season, will learn their postseason fate on Monday during the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Selection Show at 1:30 p.m. The show will be broadcast on ncaa.com, and more information will be provided on athletics.case.edu and on the CWRU Athletics social media accounts (@caseathletics) when it is available.
