Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 6 Spartans Earn 1-1 Tie with Chicago

The sixth-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team earned a 1-1 tie with the University of Chicago on Friday night at DiSanto Field in Cleveland.

The Spartans continue their unbeaten season, moving to 10-0-3 overall and 2-0-2 in University Athletic Association contests. The Maroons changed to 9-2-4 on the season and 1-1-2 in the UAA. CWRU remained in second in the conference standings, trailing WashU (3-0-1) by two points.

With the tie, the Spartans extended their home unbeaten streak to 20 matches, regular season unbeaten streak to 23 matches, and unbeaten streak in conference play to 15 matches.

Sophomore forward Molly Shamah put the hosts ahead in the 22nd minute with her second goal of the season. A corner kick by senior forward Aniya Hartzler bounced off a couple players before reaching the feet of sophomore forward Maggie Farra. A shot by Farra close to the goal was saved by Chicago, but Shamah collected the rebound and delivered the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Farra earned her first assist of the season on the play.

Just 14 minutes later, the Maroons equalized on a goal from Mary Stuart Kerrigan with an assist by Kamiryn Grimes.

Neither team was able to break through for the remainder of the first half or for the final 45 minutes of play. CWRU totaled nine shots in the contest, including seven on goal, while Chicago managed six shots with two on goal. Shamah had a match-leading three shots, and six Spartans added an attempt.

Case Western Reserve will host second-ranked and conference-leading WashU on Sunday at 11 a.m. for the final regular season home contest at DiSanto Field of the 2023 campaign.
