The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team earned a scoreless draw with the 24th-ranked University of Chicago on Friday night at DiSanto Field in Cleveland.
The Spartans moved to 7-2-3 overall and 1-1-2 in University Athletic Association contests, tied for third in the conference standings. The Maroons moved to 6-2-5 on the season and 1-1-2 in conference play.
The clean sheet is the eighth of the season for CWRU, the most for the team since it recorded nine in 2018. Sophomore goalkeeper Bradley Winter earned his seventh individual shutout of the season, tying him for second in the single season program record book. Former Spartan Charlie Fink recorded eight in 2018. Winter lowered his goals against average to 0.42 and increased his save percentage to 0.857, recording three in the contest.
Winter and the Spartan backline have not allowed a goal in their last 226 minutes, posting back-to-back shutouts after blanking Emory in the second half in the match prior.
Both teams had chances in the contest, with each side totaling eight shots. Four of the Chicago shots were on target, while just one for the Spartans required a save. However, three of the hosts' shots were just wide of frame. First-year midfielder Sean Wilson lead Case Western Reserve with two shots, and six other Spartans each added one. Senior forward Jacob Salmon registered the shot on goal. CWRU also pressured the Chicago backline earning five offsides calls in the contest.
The Spartans will have one final regular season match at DiSanto Field this season, hosting WashU on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Prior to the match, the team will celebrate its six graduating team members with a Senior Day ceremony.
