Case Western Reserve University junior Joseph Rhodes V was named the punter on the D3football.com Team of the Week after helping the Spartans win the field position battle against Westminster College with his stellar play on special teams during the team's 31-6 win on Saturday in Cleveland.
Rhodes punted four times in the game for an average of 47.2 yards per punt, including three punts inside of the 20-yard line. His long punt on the day, a 54-yarder (his longest of the season), pinned Westminster on its one-yard line. Rhodes also kicked a season-long 34-yard field goal on his only attempt in the game, giving CWRU a 17-6 lead with 33 seconds left in the first half.
Rhodes is averaging 38.2 yards per punt this season with six of his 19 putting the opponent inside their own 20-yard line, and has made three-of-four field goal tries.
This was the first time in his career that Rhodes has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week and marks just the second time in school history that a punter has earned the honor, along with Jacob Burke in 2015. It is the third time this year that a Spartan has received the weekly honor, with senior defensive lineman Kaden Tong claiming a spot on the team twice.
The Spartans have won four straight games to improve to 5-1 for the season. CWRU will host Waynesburg at DiSanto Field in Cleveland next Saturday, October 21 with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
