Case Western Reserve University junior defender Sawyer Dockal earned University Athletic Association Defensive Athlete of the Week honors for his performance in the team's scoreless tie with Rochester on Saturday.
Dockal played all 90 minutes on the Spartan backline as CWRU limited Rochester to just one shot in a scoreless draw on Saturday at Edwin Fauver Field in Rochester, New York. The Yellowjacket attack, which averaged more than two goals per match entering the contest, was stymied all day by the Spartans defensively, recording just one shot in the 25th minute of play. Rochester did not even earn a corner kick in the match.
Dockal has started all 11 matches for Case Western Reserve, playing in 97% of the team's minutes. The Spartans have recorded seven shutouts this season and allowed 0.45 goals per game. This is his first career UAA Athlete of the Week honor.
Following the draw, CWRU stands at 7-2-2 and 1-1-1 in UAA play.
The Spartans return home to DiSanto Field for the final time this season this weekend, hosting the 17th-ranked University of Chicago on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Sunday marks the final home match of the year for CWRU and will be the team's Senior Day.
