No. 6 Women’s Soccer Ties with No. 12 Rochester, Remains Unbeaten

The sixth-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team remained unbeaten in the 2023 season following a 1-1 draw with the 12th-ranked University of Rochester on Saturday afternoon at Edwin Fauver Stadium in Rochester, New York.

The Spartans are now 10-0-2 this season and 2-0-1 in the University Athletic Association. The Yellowjackets moved to 9-0-4 overall and 0-0-3 in the UAA.

Rochester scored first in the 34th minute on a goal by Riya Kunderan. The hosts controlled play in the first half, outshooting CWRU 6-0 in the first 45 minutes. The Spartans made four saves in the period.

Case Western Reserve flipped the script in the second half, recording six shots compared to just three for Rochester. The Spartans found an equalizer in the 63rd minute on the first career goal for sophomore Molly Shamah. Sophomore forward Alexis Sassower sent a cross into the box that was just out of reach of the Rochester goalkeeper. Shamah tapped the ball into the lower left corner of the empty net to tie the score at one. Sassower earned her third assist of the season, tying her for the team lead.

Neither team was able to break the deadlock for the remainder of the contest leading to the second draw of the season for CWRU.

Six different Spartans recorded shots on the contest with three coming on goal. Rochester's Lauren Blanch had a match-high four shots. In goal, senior goalkeeper Maggie Storti saved three shots and moved to 10-0-2 on the season.

Case Western Reserve will return to DiSanto Field for the final time next weekend, hosting Chicago on Friday night at 5 p.m. and third-ranked Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday at 11 a.m.
