Men's Soccer Falls to No. 3 Kenyon

The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team lost to #3 Kenyon College 4-0 on Saturday evening at Mavec Field in Gambier, Ohio.

The Spartans fell to 4-2-2 on the season, while the Owls improved to 8-0-0. Coming into the contest, CWRU had not lost in its last five matches, going 4-0-1.

Kenyon scored quickly, notching a goal in the ninth minute to take a 1-0 lead. The goal by Sebastian Gaese broke a streak of 255 scoreless minutes by the Spartan defense. In the 19th minute, Sam Carson doubled the Owl advantage.

The hosts scored twice more in the second half to further their lead. Minkeal Soumah scored in the 73rd minute and Alem Duratovic scored in the 83rd minute to make the score 4-0 in favor of Kenyon.

CWRU tallied six shots during the match, including two each from senior midfielder Matt Vatne and junior defender Alex Lippiatt. Vatne recorded the team's only shot on goal in the 74th minute. Senior goalkeeper Jackson Kallen recorded a season-high four saves in the contest.

The Spartans will look to rebound when they return to DiSanto Field on Saturday, October 1 for their first University Athletic Association match, taking on Brandeis at 11 a.m.
