VanBibber's Two Goals Lead No. 15 Spartans Past Lions

Box Score

Behind the first multi-goal match of senior midfielder Helina VanBibber's career, the 15th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team defeated Penn State Behrend 3-0 at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Wednesday night.

The Spartans improved to 6-0-0 with the win, their 30th straight regular season win over a non-conference opponent. The Lions fell to 1-5-1. Case Western Reserve is one of 10 remaining teams in Division III without a loss or tie.

Graduate student forward Camryn Hartman opened the scoring for CWRU in the 13th minute, converting a penalty kick for the second time this season to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. It was Hartman's team-leading fifth goal of the campaign, and she has notched either a goal or an assist in all six of the team's matches.

VanBibber did not score until the 52nd minute, when the Spartans scored on a corner kick. Senior forward Aniya Hartzler sent a cross from the far corner into the box. The ball deflected off the goalkeeper's hands and to VanBibber, who pushed the ball into the back of the net. Hartzler earned her second assist of the season.

In the 63rd minute, VanBibber found the back of the net again. First-year midfielder Ceci Dapino found her on the far post, and the senior tapped the ball past a diving goalkeeper for her second of the night. It was the third goal of the season for VanBibber and the team-leading third assist of the season for Dapino.

Overall, the Spartans controlled possession for most of the match, outshooting the Lions 26-4. The CWRU backline did not allow a shot on goal in 90 minutes. Junior goalkeepers Maggie Storti and Sydney Stone combined for the shutout, with Storti playing the first 78 minutes and Stone closing out the match.

Next for Case Western Reserve is a trip to New Concord, Ohio on Saturday to face Muskingum University at 3 p.m.
