Case Western Reserve University junior mid-distance runner Joe Jaster competed in the 5,000-meter run on the third and final day of the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio on Saturday.
Jaster, participating in his first outdoor and second overall championship, was seeded 14th in the event out of 20 runners.
He stayed with the pack in the beginning and middle stages of the race, before crossing the line third after 3,000 meters. During the next lap, he pushed to the front of the pack and led at the 3,400-meter mark. However, he was unable to keep pace and fell to 19th, completing the run in 15:03.92.
Earlier in the season, Jaster set a school record in the event with a time of 14:14.74 at the Bison Outdoor Classic. During the indoor season, he set the school record in the 3,000-meter run with a mark of 8:16.52. He finished 13th nationally in the event.
The conclusion of the meet marked the end of the 2021-22 season for the CWRU track and field teams.
