Singer Sets School Record, Spartans Compete at Two Meets

A school-record time in the 1,500-meter run from senior mid-distance runner Logan Singer was one of the many top performances for the Case Western Reserve University track and field teams on Friday and Saturday. The split squads competed at the Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet in Berea, Ohio on Friday and at the St. Francis Fighting Chance Meet in Joliet, Illinois on Friday and Saturday during the penultimate weekend of the regular season.

Singer finished with a time of 3:48.64, besting his previous program record of 3:52.39 from the 2022 University Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He placed seventh in the event in Joliet while recording the 23rd-best time in the country. Also in the event was junior mid-distance runner Joe Jaster, who finished in 3:53.60.

Junior mid-distance runner Liam O'Reilly, sophomore distance runner Grace Jackson, and first-year hurdler/jumper Sarah Ozeki added top marks in Illinois. O'Reilly placed eighth in the invitational portion of the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:37.44. Jackson recorded the fourth-fastest time in program history in the 'A' section of the 1,500-meter run section, crossing the finish line at 4:43.13. She placed seventh with the fastest run by a Spartan in the event since 2014. In the triple jump, Ozeki added an eighth-place finish with a mark of 11.23 meters.

Meanwhile in Ohio, junior jumper Mia Vargo recorded the 20th-best mark in the country in the high jump. She cleared 1.67 meters, good for third best in program history and fourth place at the invitational. Sophomore sprinter Elise Moore added a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.35, and sophomore sprinter Brett Callow placed seventh in the 400-meter dash in 51.99 seconds.

CWRU track and field athletes will have one final opportunity to qualify for the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday, May 19 at the Mount Union Last Chance Meet. For each men's event, the athletes with the 20 best marks are selected to the field, while for each women's event, the athletes with the 22 best marks are selected. The list of qualifiers will be released on Friday, May 20 at 8 p.m.
