Led by a University Athletic Association Championship for sophomore thrower Adrienne Wachtman, the Case Western Reserve University women's track and field team finished the first day of the UAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Bushyhead Track in St. Louis, Missouri in fourth place with 31 points.
Host Washington University in St. Louis leads with 96 points, and they are followed by Chicago (90 points) and Emory (44).
Wachtman won the UAA title in the javelin throw with a mark of 38.18 meters. It is the second consecutive win in the event for CWRU after former Spartan Shannon Carroll claimed the title in 2019. First-year jumper Lauren Roskuszka earned All-UAA honors with a third-place finish in the event with a mark of 35.19 meters.
Junior pole vaulter Victoria Zhao was the runner-up in the pole vault, earning the third All-UAA honor for the team on the day. Her mark of 3.37 meters is fourth best in program history. Finishing eighth in the event was first-year pole vaulter Amelia DiBiase with a mark of 3.22 meters.
Wachtman and junior thrower Tori Cohen both earned points for Case Western Reserve with eighth-place finishes. Wachtman placed eighth in the Shot put with a heave of 10.94 meters, while Cohen finished eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.36 meters.
The 4x800-meter relay of sophomore distance runner Grace Jackson, junior mid-distance runner Melissa Phung, senior distance runner Susanna Henry, and sophomore distance runner Jessica Kwasny finished in 9:37.32, the third-fastest time in program history and fourth in the event.
Three Spartans qualified for the finals of their events based on performances on Saturday. In the 400-meter dash, sophomore sprinter Elise Moore finished in 59.28 seconds, the seventh-fastest time in the prelims and fourth best in program history. Kwasny finished 0.17 seconds away from breaking the school record in the prelims of the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.94, the fifth-fastest in the event. Junior hurdler Mia Kilroy recorded the third-fastest time in the prelims and third-best mark in program history in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:04.87.
