The Case Western Reserve University men's distance medley relay and junior mid-distance runner Joe Jaster each set new school records for the Spartan track and field team at the Tufts Last Chance National Qualifier Meet on Saturday at the Gantcher Center in Medford, Massachusetts.

Jaster, who placed first, finished the 3000-meter run in 8:16.52, easily besting the CWRU record of 8:24.90 set by junior teammate Jack Begley earlier this season at the All-Ohio Championships. In that race, Begley broke Jaster's previous record of 8:30.18.

The distance medley relay, consisting of junior mid-distance runner Parker Straight, first-year sprinter Nicolas Lende, junior mid-distance runner Will Dehmler, and senior mid-distance runner Logan Singer, finished in 10:08.40, breaking the previous record of 10:14.79. Straight, Lende, Singer, and first-year distance runner Nate Gilbert had set the mark at the 2022 University Athletic Association Championships last weekend. The relay finished sixth in the event, with a top-30 Division III time.

Individually, Gilbert finished ninth in the one-mile run with a time of 4:18.70, the fifth-best time in school history.

Junior distance runner Cecelia Zielke finished third in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:27.46. The time was her best of the season, the third best in school history, and in the top 30 nationally.

The meet was the final opportunity for the Spartans to record marks that would qualify them for the 2022 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. The meet, which takes place from March 11-12 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, will be held at the JDL Fast Track and hosted by Guilford College. The NCAA will release selections to the meet on Sunday by 7 p.m.
