The Case Western Reserve University track and field teams wrapped up competition at the two-day Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Saturday in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Two Spartans won events at the invitational, and the team totaled 10 top-five finishes.
Senior mid-distance runner Jana Fisher and junior hurdler Mia Kilroy were the two CWRU athletes to win their events. Fisher placed first in the 3000-meter run, finishing in 10:59.89. Kilroy won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.75. The Spartans had three additional top-eight finishes in the 3000-meter run. Graduate student distance runner Anna Mollnhuber finished third in 11:27.88, first-year distance runner Medha Patria finished fourth in 11:32.04, and senior distance runner Maddy Nacci finished sixth in 11:42.27.
Both sophomore sprinter/jumpers Anna Zinsser and Emily Hopkins earned a pair of top-five finishes. Zinsser competed in the sprints, finishing third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.14 seconds and fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.65 seconds. Hopkins, meanwhile, placed fifth in both the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump. She finished the race in 17.94 seconds and jumped 4.81 meters to earn her top-five finishes. First-year hurdler/jumper Sarah Ozeki placed seventh in the long jump with a mark of 4.69 meters.
Sophomore thrower Adrienne Wachtman rounded out the top-eight finishes for the Spartans, finishing eighth in the shot put with a mark of 11.44 meters. Her mark is seventh best in CWRU history.
On the men's side, first-year distance runner Aidan Nathan recorded a pair of top-six finishes. He placed fourth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:57.33 and sixth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:13.44. First-year distance runner Luke Kishna earned a top-five finish, placing fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 10:09.47.
Sophomore sprinter/jumper Yusuf Shaaban and senior thrower Ben Brisman placed seventh in their events. Shaaban finished the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.04, while Brisman recorded a mark of 44.57 meters in the hammer throw.
Junior sprinter/jumper Keith Cartwright placed eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.77 seconds.
The Spartans will next travel to Wooster, Ohio on Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2 for the two-day Fighting Scots Invitational, hosted by the College of Wooster.
