Hartman's Late Goal Earns No. 4 Women's Soccer Draw with Rochester

Box Score

On the strength of two second half goals from graduate student forward Camryn Hartman, including one in the 89th minute, the fourth-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team tied the University of Rochester 2-2 in a University Athletic Association match on Friday night at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.

The draw was the first blemish for the Spartans on the season with the team now standing at 13-0-1 on the season and 4-0-1 in UAA play. Despite the draw, CWRU remained tied for first in the conference standings with #9 Carnegie Mellon. Two matches remain in conference play with the Spartans and Tartans facing off in the season finale. The Yellowjackets' record moved to 7-2-5 and 2-1-2 in conference play. Rochester stayed in fourth in the UAA and was mathematically eliminated from the conference title with the tie.

The Yellowjackets scored quickly, with Claire Glover recording her first of two goals in the fourth minute of play. In the 20th minute, Glover scored again, her 12th of the season. Natalie Kocsis earned an assist on the first goal and Syd Coggins tallied one on the second.

Despite trailing 2-0 at halftime, Case Western Reserve outshot Rochester 6-2 in the first 45 minutes.

CWRU found the back of the net in the 56th minute with Hartman's first goal of the match. The graduate student forward received a throw-in from senior defender/forward Merry Meyer deep in the Yellowjacket third on the far side of the field. She fired a shot about 15 yards away from the goal and the ball found the top right corner of the net to put the Spartans on the board.

With time winding down and Case Western Reserve still looking for an equalizer, Hartman struck again with 115 seconds remaining in the match. She received an errant clearance at the top of the box and beat the Rochester goalkeeper with a strike into the lower right corner. It was the team-leading 10th goal of the season for Hartman and her second time scoring two goals in a match for CWRU. She became just the eighth player in Spartan women's soccer history to score double-digit goals in a season.

Neither team was able to break the deadlock in the final minutes to lead to the tie. Case Western Reserve was on the offensive attack for most of the contest, having an advantage over Rochester in shots (13-3), corner kicks (11-0), and offside violations (5-1). Hartman and senior forward Aniya Hartzler each tallied a team-high three shots.

The Spartans will host #15 Emory on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in their penultimate match of the season. Case Western Reserve President Eric Kaler and Executive Director of the Veale Institute for Entrepreneurship Michael Goldberg will provide play-by-play of the match.
