Sophomore midfielder Lukas Dalakis recorded a goal and an assist in the match for the second time this season. He started the scoring in the 16th minute, netting his third goal of the season to get the Spartans on the board. After some crafty footwork by senior midfielder Matt Vatne kept the ball in play on the goal line, junior defender Jad Oglesby sent a pass to Dalakis at top of the box. The sophomore fired a shot into the lower left corner of the goal, finding the back of the net early in the contest. Oglesby earned his first assist of the season on the play.
Just five minutes later, Dalakis found junior midfielder Jacob Salmon for the second CWRU goal in the 21st minute. Salmon hit a shot from outside the box past the Asbury goalkeeper in the top corner of the goal to double the Spartan advantage. It was the second goal of the season for Salmon and the third assist of the season for Dalakis.
Just 57 seconds into the second half, Vatne drew a foul inside the box to set up a penalty kick for the hosts. Senior midfielder Sean Atwater easily bested the goalkeeper on the shot to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Spartans. It was the fifth goal of the season for Atwater and his first career penalty kick goal.
Asbury's Austin Dunlap notched his sixth goal of the campaign in the 86th minute to prevent the CWRU shutout.
Overall, Case Western Reserve controlled possession and attacked throughout the match. The Spartans outshout the Eagles 18-4 and committed six offside violations, compared to zero for the visitors. Atwater led all players with five shots. Senior goalkeeper Jackson Kallen earned the win in front of the net, playing the first 70 minutes without allowing a goal. He improved to 7-3-3 this season, lowering his goals against average to 1.35.
