For the second consecutive match, a late goal for the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team gave the Spartans a result in University Athletic Association play. On Friday night, at Francis Olympic Field in St. Louis, Missouri, a 90th minute goal by senior midfielder Sean Atwater earned CWRU a 1-1 tie with Washington University in St. Louis.

The Spartans now stand at 6-2-3 overall and 2-0-1 in University Athletic Association play, second in the conference standings with seven points. The Bears' record is 5-3-2 and 1-0-2 in the UAA, good for fourth in the conference with five points.

With less than one minute remaining in the contest, and CWRU trailing 1-0, junior defender Josh Cook received a lob pass at the top of the 18-yard box. He passed the ball toward senior Atwater on the far post, who then fired it into the bottom corner of the goal to tie the score at one with 55.9 seconds left on the clock.

The goal was the fourth of the season for Atwater and his first in conference play. Cook earned his first career assist on the play.

WashU scored an early goal to take the lead with Carl Vestberg tallying his second goal of the season in the 14th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Jackson Kallen faced seven more shots over the final 76 minutes and did not allow the Bears to score again. He ended the match with three saves.

Overall, the Spartans outshot the Bears 10-9 in the match, including a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. Atwater led all players with three shots, all of which were on target.

Case Western Reserve will conclude its UAA road trip on Sunday when the team faces top-ranked University of Chicago at Stagg Field in Chicago at 12 p.m. ET.
