Spartans Improve to 3-0-0 with Win over Adrian

Box Score

Goals from junior Helena VanBibber, first-year Syndey Schenk and senior Christina Hickson helped propel the Spartans to their third-straight win to open the campaign, as the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team bested Adrian College 3-0 in its home-opening match at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Wednesday night.

The Spartans, who improved to 3-0-0 on the campaign, have now won 16-straight regular season non-conference games and increased their non-conference undefeated streak to 17-straight matches. Adrian dropped to 2-2-0 with the loss.

VanBibber got the Spartans on the board in the fifth minute of the game with the first goal of her collegiate career. Schenk created the opportunity by crossing the ball into the six-yard box, and Hickson deflected it to VanBibber, who finished it to give CWRU a 1-0 lead at the 4:18 mark. Hickson and Schenk were each credited with their first assists of the season on the goal.

Schenk would pick up her first collegiate goal later in the first half, scoring in the 17th minute off an assist from first-year Carolyn Koutures, her second of the campaign and giving the Spartans a 2-0 advantage.

The score remained 2-0 until early in the second half, when Hickson was able to convert a shot from the middle of the field and 18-yards out for her second goal of the season, putting CWRU ahead 3-0 at the 52:14 mark. Senior Anika Washburn picked up her second assist of the season on the goal and now has a team-high six points this season.

Sophomore Maggie Storti played all 90 minutes in goal, converting a season-high four saves for her second shutout of the campaign. She lowered her goals against average to 0.67 for the season and improved to 3-0-0 on the year.

CWRU outshot Adrian 17-7 in the game, including a 6-4 edge in shots on goal.

The Spartans will be back in action at DiSanto Field this weekend, hosting Baldwin Wallace at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 11.
