Men's Soccer Earns 4-3 Victory at Capital on Saturday

The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team recorded a 4-3 victory against non-conference opponent Capital University on Saturday evening in Columbus, Ohio.

The Spartans improved to 5-2-1 on the season while the Crusaders dropped to 5-2-0 on the campaign.

CWRU took a 1-0 lead in the 4th minute of play when senior forward Jacob Hall received a pass from sophomore defender Jad Oglesby and tapped the ball to the lower left of the goal. The goal was Hall's fourth of the season, while the assist was Oglesby's third on the season. The Spartans would hold the 1-0 advantage throughout the remainder of the first half.

Case Western Reserve struck for their second goal of the game early in the second half, as Hall scored his second goal of the game and fifth of the season at the 52:44 mark via an assist from junior midfielder Matt Vatne.

The Spartans added to their lead less than four minutes later as senior midfielder Henry Barnes notched his fourth goal of the season. Vatne was credited with his second assist of the game and third on the season. CWRU closed out their scoring in the 75th minute as first-year forward Brandon Kim scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from senior midfielder Sean Atwater. The assist was Atwater's first of the season.

Capital got on the board a little over two minutes later as Jack Francisco converted a penalty kick at the 76:21 mark.

The Crusaders continued to attack and notched their second goal of the game in the 82nd minute as Mitch Hughes scored via an assist from Bailey Lach. Capital scored one more goal with 36 seconds remaining in the game as Francisco notched his second goal of the game.

First-year goalkeeper Sam Rojanasakdakul went the distance and converted two saves. He improved to 2-1-1 on the year with the victory.

The Crusaders outshot the Spartans 14-11 in the game. Hall finished the game with a team-high three shots on goal, while Barnes added two shots.

Case Western Reserve will be back in action when they welcome University Athletic Association rival New York University to DiSanto Field on Saturday, October 2nd. Game time is slated for an 1:30 p.m. start.
