Hickson's Second Half Goal the Difference in #11 Spartans Win

Box Score

Case Western Reserve University senior forward Christina Hickson broke a scoreless tie in the 65th minute with her team-leading fourth goal of the year, as the 11th-ranked Spartans bested the Allegheny College Gators 1-0 in Meadville, Pennsylvania on Saturday evening.

With the win, the Spartans improved to 6-0-0 overall, while Allegheny dropped to 1-5-0 with the loss.

Despite the close final score, CWRU dominated the game, taking 41 shots during the contest, the fourth-most in a single game in program history. Included in the barrage of shots were 20 on goal. Meanwhile, the CWRU defense held Allegheny to just four shots, including three on goal.

After being held scoreless for the first 64 minutes of the game, Hickson broke through with a shot into the bottom right corner off an assist from first-year midfielder Sydney Schenk. It was Schenk's team-leading third assist of the year and marked the fourth-straight game she has registered at least one point.

The CWRU defense recorded its fifth shutout through six games this season and lowered its team goals-against average to .33 for the year. Sophomore Maggie Storti, who played all 90 minutes in goal, made three saves and notched her fourth individual shutout of the year. She has not allowed a goal in her last 333 minutes and 47 seconds in net, while CWRU as a team ran its shutout streak to 378 minutes and 47 seconds.

CWRU has now won 20-straight non-conference regular season matches and has gone undefeated in its last 21 non-conference matches including NCAA tournament play.

The Spartans will return home on Wednesday, September 22 to play host to John Carroll University at 7:30 p.m. at DiSanto Field.
