Box Score The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 contest to Kenyon College on Saturday afternoon at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Spartans are now 3-21 overall on the season, while the Lords improve to 4-1-1.
The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half, as Kenyon held the advantage in shots (3-2), but CWRU tallied one more corner kick than the Lords (4-3).
Kenyon opened the scoring early in the second half, when junior Atli Hrafnkelsson received a cross from senior Luke Muther and tapped it into the goal for his second goal of the season. The Lords added to their lead when freshman Alem Duratovic scored his second goal of the season after he intercepted a pass at the 69:22 mark.
CWRU's best opportunities came late in the second half, when senior midfielder Sean Atwater ripped a ball that was just high of the goal at the 70:52 mark, and then graduate student Seldon Magruder headed a ball with 34 seconds remaining that was saved by the Kenyon goalkeeper.
The Spartans held the advantage in shots (9-8), while corner kicks were even at 6-6.
Magruder, junior midfielder Matt Vatne and sophomore defender Josh Cook each led the Spartans with two shots apiece.
In net, first-year goalkeeper Sam Rojanasakdakul made one save and dropped to 0-1-1 on the season.
Case Western Reserve will return to action on Tuesday, September 21st when the Spartans welcome Westminster College (Pa.) to DiSanto Field. The match is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
