Three First-Half Goals Power Women's Soccer to Fourth Straight Win

Box Score

With three first-half goals, the Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team won its fourth straight match, defeating Baldwin Wallace University 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio. The Spartans improved to 4-0-0 on the season while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 1-4-0.

The win marks Case Western Reserve's 17th straight regular season non-conference victory and extends the team's non-conference unbeaten streak to 18 matches.

In the fourth minute, first-year midfielder Sydney Schenk opened the scoring with an early goal. She delivered a corner kick past the Baldwin Wallace goalkeeper and directly into the net for her second goal of the season.

In the 36th minute, senior midfielder Anika Washburn doubled the CWRU advantage with her third goal of the season. Washburn found first-year midfielder Abigail Meneses near midfield on a give-and-go and, after receiving the ball back on a breakaway, finished the shot in the bottom left corner of the goal.

A minute later, senior forward Christina Hickson added to the lead with her third goal of the season. Senior defender Kat Rebele, who earned her first assist of the season, sent a free kick into the box that Hickson tapped into the back of the net.

Sophomore Maggie Storti started in goal and earned her fourth win of the season. In her first collegiate action, junior Anna Gurian played 45 minutes and added two saves.

CWRU was on the attack for most of the match, tallying 29 shots. Washburn led the team with five shots, while Hickson and first-year midfielder Sophia Stellabotte each added four.

The Spartans will look to stay unbeaten as they travel to Ada, Ohio on Wednesday night for a match-up against the No. 18 Ohio Northern University Polar Bears. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
