Box Score In a battle of undefeated teams on Saturday night, the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team suffered its first setback of the 2021 campaign, losing 3-0 to Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio.
The Spartans fell to 3-1-0 with the loss, while Otterbein raised its record to 3-0-0.
CWRU fell behind early on a pair of first half goals by Otterbein's Silver Abraham, the first two goals allowed by the Spartans this season. Abraham struck for his first goal in the 14th minute of play, and then added to the Cardinals' lead with a 31st-minute strike.
The Spartans offense began to come alive in the second half, taking the first six shots of the period and holding the Cardinals without a shot until in the frame until the 84th minute, when Abraham completed his hat trick with his third goal of the game.
Junior goalkeeper Jackson Kallen played the first half for the Spartans, allowing both goals and suffering the loss to fall to 3-1-0 on the year. First-year Sam Rojanasakdakul, who made his collegiate debut in his hometown on Saturday night, played the final 45 minutes in goal for CWRU.
The Spartans finished the game with advantages in shots (11-8), shots on goal (8-6), and corner kicks (6-3). The Spartans' 11 shots came from 11 different players.
The Spartans will complete their brief two-game road swing this week, when the team travels across town to face 20th-ranked John Carroll University on Wednesday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m.
