Track & Field Concludes Regular Season at Toledo Last Chance Qualifier

The Case Western Reserve University track and field team competed for the final time before the 2021 NCAA Division Championships, with several athletes competing at the Toledo Last Chance Qualifier in Toledo, Ohio on Saturday.

Several Spartans notched personal best times on Saturday, including four on the women's side.

Sophomore Cecelia Zielke and senior Kiera Olson placed first and second in the 5,000-meter run, as Zielke crossed the finish line in a time of 17:51.87 and Olson finished with a time of 17:55.79. Both times were personal bests for Zielke and Olson.

In addition, first-year Emily Hopkins placed first in the triple jump with a personal best mark of 11.30 meters, while first-year Adrienne Wachtman placed fourth in the discus with a personal best toss of 39.14 meters. Hopkins also added a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (16.55) and an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (27.52), while Wachtman placed fourth in the javelin (32.59m). Sophomore Mia Kilroy rounded out the competitors for the Spartan women, as she placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.26 and finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.71.

For the men on Saturday, sophomores Jack Begley and Joe Jaster each turned in strong performances in the 5,000-meter run. Begley finished third in the event with a personal best time of 14:41.98, while Jaster placed fifth with a personal best time of 14:51.69.

Other competitors for the Spartan men were graduate student Jonathan Haling in the 400-meter dash (fourth, 49.91) and the 200-meter dash (sixth, 22.88), and junior Juan Perez in the 100-meter dash (fifth, 11.03).

The Spartans will now await the announcement of the field for the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina, with the top-17 men and top-19 women in each event earning a spot at the meet. NCAA Championship selections will be announced via a release on NCAA.com on Friday, May 21 by 8:00 p.m.

The 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships are scheduled to be held in Greensboro, North Carolina from May 27-29.
